One Of The Humble Ones

by altardy on October 2, 2011

—I want you to meet Dennis Sullivan.  I’m proud to call Dennis a great friend.  He is a perfect example of greatness and humbleness all wrapped around a wonderful heart.  We tend to frequent the same restaurant, as you can see in the background.

—Dennis, amongst other things, is a talented runner.  He has a great relationship with his son who is also a very talented runner.  Dennis shares many proud moments about the great races both he and his son compete in.  But, Dennis tends to be a humble runner who takes little credit for his own performances.

—We have run in the same races in the past. One of which is a favorite of mine–The Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Race.  Many times I’ve talked with him after the race or the next day about the race.  He will listen to how I did and talk about the great run his son had. He will also talk about other people’s inspiring performances. But, unless you specifically inquire about his times he won’t openly tell you how he did.  He is happy in talking to you about others.

—If you do directly ask how he did, you find out that he has beaten almost all those whose performances he has talked so enthusiastically about (except his son, who does kick dad’s butt every time).

–Dennis is a truly great guy and a fine example of what the world needs more of, someone who is more interested in making others feel great about themselves, then telling the world how great he is.  I truly hope you have a person like Dennis in your life that you can call “friend”.
